How to Choose an Outdoor Grill
Start with how you like to cook. If you mostly want quick weeknight burgers and push-button convenience, a gas or propane grill is the usual pick, but this collection doesn't carry those right now. Every outdoor grill here is a charcoal kamado. A kamado is a thick ceramic cooker that holds heat and moisture, so one unit can grill, smoke, bake and roast. It suits you if you enjoy live-fire flavor and want both long, low-and-slow cooks and high-heat searing from the same grill.
Then answer three practical questions:
- How many people do you feed? The cooking surface tells you more than the model number does.
- Where will it live? Measure your patio, deck or balcony. Leave room for the lid to open fully and keep the grill well away from walls, railings and overhangs.
- Will you move it? Ceramic is heavy, so a stand with lockable caster wheels makes moving it much easier.

Why Ceramic Kamado Grills Cook Differently
A kamado's thick ceramic walls absorb heat and give it back evenly. That keeps food moist and lets you run long smoking sessions on a modest amount of charcoal. You control the temperature with the adjustable dampers. Open them for more airflow and higher heat, or close them down for a gentle, steady smoke. The 21", 15" and 13" models list a built-in thermometer, which lets you hold a target temperature without lifting the lid.
Some details make everyday use easier. Stainless steel grates resist rust and clean up well. On the 26" and 23", a hinged section lets you add fuel or wood chips mid-cook. The 23" also has a spring-loaded hinge that makes the heavy lid easier to lift.
Sizing Your Grill to Your Space
The 13" model is made for small spaces and weighs 39 lbs, so it fits couples and compact patios and is easier to move than the larger sizes. The 15" is a step up for small households. The 21", with 412 sq. in., handles family dinners. The 23" adds folding side shelves for prep space on its 487 sq. in. The 26", with 680 sq. in., is the one to pick if you often host a crowd or want to smoke large cuts while grilling sides.
Plan the area around the grill too. Set it on a stable, level, non-combustible surface away from siding and overhead structures. Then add places to serve and relax nearby, such as outdoor dining tables, outdoor coffee and side tables for platters and tools, or outdoor lounge sets for guests.
Caring for a Ceramic Charcoal Grill
- Heat up gradually. Sudden temperature swings stress ceramic. This matters most on your first cooks and in cold weather. Ceramic cracking is excluded from the listed warranties, so careful use pays off.
- Burp the lid. Lift it slightly for a moment before opening it fully. This lets air in slowly and helps prevent flare-ups.
- Never use water to put out the fire. Close both dampers and let the coals go out on their own.
- Clean the grates while they are warm, and run the grill hot now and then to burn off residue.
- Clear out ash before each cook so air can flow through the bottom vent.
- Keep it covered and dry between uses, and check the hardware from time to time.
